Roadway takes flight with airfreight business

AKRON, Ohio (Jan. 2, 2002) — Less-than-truckload freight specialist Roadway Express has entered the airfreight business, opening a freight forwarding operation called Roadway Air.

The division will be managed by Integres Global Logistics, a third-party logistics company. Integres has access to nearly 3000 planes, over 12,000 daily flight departures and over 40,000 trailers, working with up to 400 terminals, Roadway said.

“With the establishment of the air freight forwarding product, Roadway Express now offers one of the broadest ranges of “speed options” in the transportation industry,” said Bill Michael, Roadway vice-president, marketing. “We can now offer everything from “next flight out,” which enables us to deliver freight in a matter of hours, to our regular LTL service.”

Roadway Express offers LTL service in Canada via its Reimer Express subsidiary.

Customer service for Roadway Air will be available through a dedicated call centre or online at my.roadway.com. Customers will have access to online quotes and order placement, real-time online shipment tracking, one invoice, six different day-definite service options, and 24-hour customer service.
