Canada Post, Sears pilot secure box for large packages

TORONTO (August 21, 2001) — Canada Post and Sears Canada customers may no longer need to be waiting at their front door to receive packages from those two companies.

Sears and Canada Post have ventured into a partnership with eBox Inc. to test a new secure parcel delivery technology called the eBox. The box, made of high-density plastic and available in several sizes, is designed to blend discreetly with a customer’s home or office. Customers open the eBox using an electronic wireless key with a unique access code, providing a method of secure, unattended delivery.

Canada Post and Sears Canada are currently inviting customers in select areas of Richmond Hill, Ont., to take part in the pilot free of charge.
