CSA truck safety management standard forms the basis of college course
TORONTO (Sept. 18, 2002) — CSA International, Canada’s leading certification and product testing organization, announced an agreement with the Transportation Training Centre of Humber to teach a course on truck safety management as part of the college’s learning services for the transportation industry beginning this month.
The new course, called Commercial Road Safety Management, is part of Humber’s continuing education program.
“We chose CSA International to teach the course for their experience in carrier certification,” said Janis Miller, Dean of Corporate and Continuing Education at Humber.
The agreement marks the first time a CSA standard has been the subject of a course taught at an educational institution. Content of the course is based on CSA standard B619-00, Carrier Safety Management Systems, a national standard of Canada developed and published by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA).
Students in the program will learn how to apply the standard from a practical perspective, including how to develop corporate policy on safety, organizational design for safety, maintenance procedures, and plans for continuous improvement. The course will be taught by Rick Jones, the lead auditor with CSA International’s Carrier Safety Management Program.
Humber is one of Canada’s largest and most respected community colleges. It offers 150 full-time diploma programs, degrees, over 200 certificate programs, as well as over 1,000 courses through Continuing Education. The Transportation Training Centre is a business unit of the college.
