Don McTavish publishes second hit trucking book
TORONTO, (Nov. 14, 2003) — highwaySTAR magazine’s very own Don McTavish, a popular Canadian trucking story-teller, has launched his second book of short stories — Big Rig 2: More Comic Tales from a Long Haul Trucker.
The book contains both new stories and some that have appeared previously in his ‘This Ain’t No Bull’ column, which appears monthly in highwaySTAR — Today’s Trucking’s sister publication for over-the-road drivers and owner-operators. All the stories are drawn from McTavish’s years of trucking in the rough-and-tumble Canadian west. The official unveiling of the new book took place in Edmonton recently. It’s on bookstore shelves now, 208 pages long and priced at $14.95.
As if that weren’t enough, young McTavish was commissioned by the public library systems in northern B.C. to give readings of Big Rig and Big Rig Two. Organized by Janet Marrin of the Smithers Library Board, readings were held in libraries and high schools in Prince George, Fraser Lake, Fort St. James, Smithers, and Houston, among others.
Praise for Don’s first book was common, like this comment from a reviewer in The Edmonton Journal: “The more than two dozen stories are told with winning humour and a wonderful observant eye.” The book is published by Edmonton’s NeWest Press, and its ISBN number (which you may need if you have to have a bookstore do a search for you) is 1-896300-71-5
