Tico first Canadian OEM to offer Meritor axle

TORONTO — Tico of Canada Intermodal Equipment Solutions is the first manufacturer in North America to offer the Meritor MOR-32 heavy-duty single drive rear axle for port and terminal tractors.

ArvinMeritor made the announcement at Truck World 2010, Canada’s national truck show.

The Meritor MOR-32 axle is on display at Truck World in a Tico model delivered to BC Ferry Services, as part of the previously announced single largest terminal tractor sale in Canada.

The Meritor MOR-32 is a 32 metric-ton rated planetary rear drive axle built to handle today’s heavier payloads. Its fabricated steel housing allows the axle section and length to be customized, giving customers the flexibility to meet their specific strength, capacity and track requirements. The range of axle ratios from 8.5 to 24.8 provides a wide selection for increased fuel efficiency and performance.

Other axle features include input performance approved for 3,000 rpm with additional potential for higher speeds; 610 Series planetary wheel ends with 3.46 ratio; and an optional driver-controlled differential lock (DCDL) helps increase vehicle control on slippery surfaces.

The Meritor axle, which the company says hauls up to 20,000 pounds more payload than most competitors’ models, is available immediately on Tico Pro Spotter tractors.

"ArvinMeritor provides an outstanding combination of product quality and superb customer support," said Aidan S. Bolger, president and CEO of Tico of Canada. "Our customers and aftermarket affiliates across Canada are confident knowing that ArvinMeritor has the superior network and ability to support customers with innovative solutions that range from technical specifications all the way through to parts and service."
