New Yokohama long-haul tire now in Canada

Yokohama Tire Canada
Now available through authorized dealers in Canada, the new Yokohama RY637 “long-haul” steer axle radial is said to tackle concerns like irregular tread wear head on.

Yokohama says all the design elements were conceived to control the load pressure on
the tread as the tire rolls. For example, the Stress Wear Control Groove reduces the contact pressure at the tread shoulder. This results in increased resistance to shoulder step-down wear. The Stress Wear Control Rib isolates heavy pressure on this rib, thereby reducing the contact pressure on the main portion of that rib. In addition, the Stress Wear Control Sipes act to reduce the contact pressure on the inside of the Shoulder Rib, giving the tire additional flexibility at that part of the tread, and the Stress Control Groove Shape reduces stiffness at the outside groove edge, the company says.

In the RY637, the top steel belt is extended to the shoulder of the tire to add stiffness to the face of the tread, making the rigidity of the tread uniform across the tire. Yokohama also maintains that deliberate change in contact pressure helps control tire wear, and offer greater puncture resistance.

A new Contoured Bead design developed for the RY637 allows the tire to sit evenly on the wheel, improving tire uniformity along the entire circumference of the rim and reducing tire vibration. Yokohama also says its incorporation of two technologies help maximize the RY637’s performance. MC2 technology allows for reduced rolling resistance (up to 4% according to independent testing), and the STEM-2 technology positively redirects normally destructive flexing and straining forces, the company says, prolonging the casing life for greater retreadability.
