Quebec Fleets Form Strategic Partnership
LANORAIE, QC and L'ASSOMPTION, QC -- The trucking companies Express Mondor and Transport l'Épiphanie have announced they have formed a strategic partnership to accelerate their growth.The two will harmonize the management and operation of their fleets in order to optimize equipment use and better meet the needs of their customers across North America, according to a news release. Express Mondor, based in Lanoraie, QC, and Transport l'Épiphanie, based in L'Assomption, QC, specialize in oversize transportation, serving a cross-section of customers in a variety of industries in Canada and the U.S. The two say the agreement will make it possible for them optimally manage, maintain and operate a combined fleet of more than 80 tractors and 200 modern trailers.
Morneau Named Chairman of Training Foundation
MONTREAL - David Morneau, business development director at the trucking company Morneau Eskimo, has been appointed as chairman of the board at the Fondation pour la formation en transport routier and president of the Workforce Committee at l'Association du camionnage du Québec.
Trailcon Leasing Announces Five Appointments
BRAMPTON, ON -- Trailcon Leasing Inc. this week announced several appointments at the company's new Brampton, ON head office. Mike Krell has been promoted to vice-president of sales and marketing. Since joining the company in 2000, he has held a number of sales-related positions of increasing responsibility, according to the company. In his new capacity, he will continue to service his existing accounts, acquire new business, and oversee the sales team to maximize future growth. Effective April 1, Bryan Burningham joined Trailcon as vice-president of service and operations. He will report directly to President Alan Boughton, working with the service and operations team.
Investment, Report Give Boost to Truck Platooning
ARLINGTON, VA and SOUTHFIELD, MI -- The concept of using wireless communication along roadways and in trucks to pair big rigs so they travel closely together has taken two steps forward. The vehicle technology supplier Denso International America Inc., along with Intel Capital, has entered into a US$16 million investment agreement with Peloton Technology, to help accelerate Peloton's development and deployment of platooning technology. The deal, which was finalized late last month, but just announced this week, aims to increase fuel economy and improve safety for the global trucking industry, according to Michigan-based Denso.
GE Capital, Shell Partner for Natural Gas Truck Leasing
MONTREAL- One company in the financial services arena and another in the energy business have teamed up to facilitate the trucking industry's adoption in Canada of liquefied natural gas (LNG) powered trucks.Under an agreement, GE Capital Canada and Shell Canada Products will work together to reduce monthly payments for truck fleets that lease natural gas vehicles (NGVs). GE Capital has been providing wholesale and retail financing to the country's commercial trucking sector for 35 years. Specifically, fleets owners can sign natural gas fueling contracts with Shell and, separately, secure leases for LNG vehicles with GE Capital. The agreement covers equipment that will purchase fuel from Shell's facilities.In and interview with Today's Trucking, Veronique Hache, strategic initiative leader, natural gas, with GE Capital, said the company is offering the same service for natural gas powered trucks that it has for diesel powered ones for many years, but this new program is way to offset the higher costs of the alternatively fueled equipment.
U.S.-Canada Freight Up Overall, Trucking’s Share Lower
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The total value of freight moved between the U.S. and Canada increased 1% in March compared to the same time a year earlier, but trucking alone saw a decline, according to new figures released by the U.S. Transportation Department.

Accuride Inks Deal with Daimler Trucks
EVANSVILLE, IN - The commercial vehicle components supplier Accuride Corp. announced on Thursday it recently signed a multi-year agreement with Daimler Trucks North America to supply its American-cast-and-machined Gunite brake drums to Daimler's aftermarket parts group.
