CALGARY,Alta. – Alberta Environment is investigating a spill caused when a corrosive cleaner was loaded into the wrong type of tanker.

The cleaner, sodium hydroxide, reacts negatively with certain metals. Once inside the tank, the chemical began dissolving the aluminum welds, spilling as much as 150 litres at TransCanada Turbines Ltd. The rest of the 1,000-litre load was transferred to a second tanker. n
