There’s nothing wrong with the scales
Dear Editor:
The November issue of Truck News contained a letter to the editor about scale ramps.
My observations are that all ramps have a few things in common: notification at least one kilometre before; a length of lane for exiting and entering; and vehicles that perform those actions.
All drivers should recognize these and must allow vehicles to exit and enter by merging.
The only difference with scales is that slow vehicles are nearly 100 per cent of the traffic involved and the one kilometre notices are for fully-literate truck drivers instead of being large and easily recognizable for all drivers.
If the traffic is heavy enough that faster drivers can’t move over, they probably should not be going that fast.
