LOWER SACKVILLE, N.S. -- It was 1956 and Owen Davis decided he wanted to live off the open road. So he took his $2,700 in savings and bought his first heavy truck -- even talking down the dealer another 25 bucks because the tires weren't exactly what he requested.
PM lauds truckers to launch National Trucking Week
Among the first to laud the nation's truck drivers ahead of this week's National Trucking Week 2006 was Prime Minister Stephen Harper, who noted that Canada's supply chain and trade with the U.S. is "dependent on the professionalism and dedication of the thousands of individuals who keep Canada's freight moving," he wrote in a letter to the Canadian Trucking Association.
