ACERT-equipped C13 gets EPA certified
Caterpillar
Caterpillar has received 2004 certification by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for its C13 on-highway diesel engine equipped with the company’s ACERT emission controls. The C13, Cat’s fourth engine to be certified, is expected to be the lynchpin of the company’s on-highway engine business, suited to general freight, line-haul, tanker, and vocational truck fleets. It is offered in the 335- to 430-horsepower range and goes into production this month.
Caterpillar says all of its on-highway truck and bus engines will be produced with ACERT technology by the end of the year, bringing an end to the “bridge” engines that reduce emissions but don’t meet the EPA’s current standard. Cat pays a penalty on each non-compliant engine it sells. More information is available at www.cat.com.
