ArvinMeritor sells off-highway brake biz to Carlisle

NEW YORK — Carlisle Cos. said it has acquired ArvinMeritor’s off-highway brake systems business for about $39 million.

Carlisle, a leading maker of heavy-duty truck brakes and brakes for off-highway equipment, will acquire equipment and assets from ArvinMeritor manufacturing plants in York, S.C., and Cwmbran, South Wales, U.K.

Carlisle also makes industrial components (tensioners, tires, and wheels), construction and roofing materials, and plastic food service equipment.

ArvinMeritor has been selling off assets to focus on core products within the light and commercial vehicle systems businesses.

“The divestiture of ArvinMeritor’s off-highway brakes operation is aligned with the company’s strategy to focus on its core products within the Light and Commercial Vehicle Systems businesses,” said Chip McClure, ArvinMeritor chairman, CEO and president. “We will continue to offer a complete range of on-highway braking systems and components designed to meet the sophisticated needs of the commercial vehicle industry, both for our original equipment production and aftermarket customers around the world.”
