Carlisle offers new trailer brake actuator
The new Gen 5 HydraStar electric/hydraulic trailer brake actuator from Carlisle Industrial Brake and Friction offers more control and faster stopping power as compared to competitive and previous HydraStar actuator products, the company says.
The trailer mounted Gen 5 HydraStar actuator ensures safe, smooth, controlled stops under a
variety of driving conditions. The HydraStar actuator is vastly superior to surge brakes and can
eliminate the feel of being “pushed” by the trailer, as well as problems associated with backing a trailer uphill. The brake drag common to surge brakes on downhill grades is also eliminated, the company says.
The HydraStar line offers three maximum pressure rated units (1000 psi, 1200 psi, and 1600
psi) to match trailer axle and brake configurations and prevent seal damage from over-pressurizing the trailer brakes. Installation and wiring have been simplified and a bleeder fitting has been added to make brake bleeding easier, the company says.
The brake actuator requires an electrical in-cab controller (ordered separately) and for optimum performance, Carlisle offers its model HSC Controller, which allows the driver to adjust the trailer brake while sitting behind the wheel. The updated design also has eliminated the need for an accessory switch, requiring power only when the brakes are applied.
