Cold temperatures delay highway weight restrictions
FREDERICTON, N.B. — Spring weight restrictions on New Brunswick highways have been delayed one week due to cold temperatures forecast for the next several days.
Transportation minister, Percy Mockler, says weight restrictions for trucks are imposed each year during the spring thaw period to protect the highway system.
These restrictions are now scheduled to begin effective March 9 at midnight in southern New Brunswick and March 16 at midnight in northern New Brunswick.
These dates are dependent upon weather conditions and are still subject to change.
Should weather conditions warrant, district engineers are authorized to close roads to trucks or to impose weight restrictions on highways or portions of highways at any time in order to protect the highway system.
Traditionally, the removal of spring weight restrictions begins in mid-May; however, the final date is very dependent upon weather conditions.
