Cummins pulls the plug on ComfortGuard APU
COLUMBUS, Ind. — It’s obvious truckers aren’t spending a lot of money on spec’ing add-ons In this depressed market, and APUs are one of the biggest casualties.
Just a few weeks after announcing California Air Resources Board-compliant features to its ComfortGuard APUs, Cummins says it has decided to drop the line of products.
The company, which blamed slumping sales for the decision, says it will continue to honor warranties for those in use and support them indefinitely with parts and service.
The company could not sell enough of the APUs to support the business unit charged with building and marketing them, executives explained.
Lower fuel prices — about half of what they were last summer — have also stunted sales.
Cummins said it might return to the APU market if conditions change.
