Fontaine Modification agreement puts Volvo back in auto hauler market

Volvo Trucks North America
Volvo Trucks North America has re-entered the autohauler market in a co-operative effort with Fontaine Modification.

Fontaine is making Volvo’s VN420 highway tractor available in two height variations: “low roof” and “low cab.” The VN low roof variant reduces the “ground to top of cab” measurement to 104.5 inches with little more than a flat roof conversion. This critical height dimension can be further reduced to 99.5 inches with a complete low cab Fontaine modification that includes lowering the suspension. At 99.5 inches, the VN autohauler is a full two inches lower than other comparable trucks in its class.

Fontaine Modification offers VN series autohauler conversions of VNM/VNL Daycabs, VNM/VNL420 models, and VNL610 sleepers for maximized tractor height and flexibility on the bumper-to-back of cab length.

“For autohaulers, flexibility means efficiency,” stated Susan Alt, vice president of marketing. “The VN modification by Fontaine enables autohaulers to load vehicles more efficiently, thus reducing the number of times the load will need to be repositioned for clearance. By handling the load fewer times, the transporter reduces the risk of damage thereby increasing customer satisfaction. That is what builds loyalty.”
