Freightliner unveils new BBC trio of trucks
Freightliner unveiled new versions of its M2 and Columbia trucks at the Mid-America Trucking Show in Louisville. The M2 100, the M2 112, as well as a 112-inch BBC of its popular Columbia heavy-duty tractor, were all introduced at the show.
The Columbia 112 enhances maneuverability and visibility over the original Columbia’s 120-inch BBC configuration, with a set-back front axle up to 50-degree wheel cut, and wide, two-piece swept back windshield and sloped hood. The truck also features a leaf and half front spring suspension rated at 12,000 pounds, although ratings of 40,000. 46,000, and 52,000 pounds can also be spec’d. Available in either day cab or several sleeper configurations, the 112 comes with either the Mercedes-Benz MBE4000 or Caterpillar engines rated to 470.
The Business Class M2 100 — designed for a variety of mid-range truck applications, including pickup and delivery, food and beverage distribution, towing and general services — is available 16,000 to 26,000 pound GVW ratings. It comes standard with the MBE900 engine in four- and six-cylinder, with horsepower ratings from 170 to 250 and torque from 420 to 660 lb.-ft. Transmissions available include the Mercedes MBT 6-speed manual, Eaton-Fuller 6- or 7-speed manuals, and Allison automatic transmissions. The 112 is available with 19.5-inch wheels, while front axle ratings range from 6,000 to 10,000-pounds.
The M2 112, which comes in both factory installed crew cab and extended cab, is available in GVW ratings up to 66,000 pounds. Standard is the Mercedes-Benz MBE4000 engine with horsepower ratings to 450 hp, while Caterpillar engines will also be offered as options later this year. Transmission options include the Eaton-Fuller AutoShift and Eaton-Fuller manual 10- or 13-speed transmissions, along with Allison HD series transmissions.
