International VT 365 diesel
A replacement for the International T 444E, the VT 365 V-8 diesel engine from International Truck and Engine is available in ratings of 175, 195, 215, and 230 horsepower at 2600 rpm with up to 620 pound-feet of torque at its highest rating.
The 6.0-litre VT 365 brings advanced fuel-injection technology to International’s medium-duty trucks. The engine is the first to use the company’s second-generation (“G2”) electro-hydraulic low-pressure common rail fuel system. The G2 fuel system uses high-pressure, digitally controlled injectors to efficiently manage fuel. Higher injection pressure combined with four valves per cylinder increases performance and fuel economy while lowering emissions, due to more complete mixing of fuel and air for better combustion, International says.
The engine is also the first V-8 to use the company’s EVRT technology (Electronic Variable Response Turbocharger) for more throttle response. EVRT enhances the turbocharger with electronic controls to allow an infinitely adjustable supply of air. This adjustable airflow technology gives the International VT 365 the attributes of the best turbocharger match for all conditions-it acts like a small turbo for instant response at low speeds, and works like a large turbo when more airflow is needed at full power.
The engine can be low-emission-vehicle (LEV) certified, and has cooled exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) to reduce pollution from oxides of nitrogen, or NOx.
International designed the engine to mate with Allison automatic transmissions. “Intuitive” shift controllers change transmission ratios according to how the vehicle is being driven-shifting early under a light load and later under a heavy load.
