KW adds Cummins ISL

Kenworth
Kenworth bolstered its data book by adding the 8.9-litre Cummins ISL engine. At 310 to 350 horsepower and 1,050 to 1,250 foot-pounds of torque, the engine should be popular in short-hood T800 and W900S models for vocational and pick-up and delivery applications, Kenworth says. The ISL does not use exhaust-gas recirculation to cut emissions and it does not comply with 2004 emission standards set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Instead, Cummins will apply ìcreditsî from other compliant engines sold in order to avoid EPA fines. The ISL also weighs about 500 pounds less than competitive engines.
