Lion’s Gate-PTR completes GE Trailer acquisition

WINNIPEG — Lions Gate Trailers (LGT) of Vancouver and Mississauga-based Provincial Trailer Rentals (PTR) has finalized the strategic purchase of GE Trailer Fleet Services, formerly known as TIP, a division of GE Capital.

LGT will operate the GE Trailer Fleet Services facilities in Winnipeg and integrate the balance of the six facilities into their existing Canadian network. A "good percentage" of the existing GE’s technicians will also make the switch to LGT/PTR.

The acquisition expands the LGT/PTR trailer fleet to over 20,000 units and will include tandem and tridem trailers and chassis.

Before it acquired PTR in 2006, Lion’s Gate had about 5,000 units. It has since expanded from a western trailer rental company into one of Canada’s largest.

PTR had recently taken over the Moncton, New Brunswick TIP operation, which led to further discussions with parent GE Capital and their subsequent decision to pull out of the Canadian market.

GE Capital continues to own and operate the USA element of GE Trailer Fleet Services. The additional human resources, new Winnipeg location and increased rolling stock puts LGT/PTR well in the lead as Canada’s premier supplier of trailer sales, rentals, storage and maintenance providers.

Lions Gate Trailers Limited has expanded exponentially over the last few years, commencing with the purchase of Mississauga based Provincial Trailer Rentals in 2006.

With a network of 26 locations and growing, it is now the largest trailer rental, leasing and service business in Canada, providing a broad range of equipment types, including highway and city semi-trailer vans, refrigerated and heated vans, flatbeds and container chassis as well as storage vans and containers.
