LogChek video focuses on trip planning under new HOS rules

LogChek, a division of the TFS Group of Companies, has released a new training video and workbook to help truck drivers, dispatchers, and fleet managers comply with revised hours-of-service rules that take effect in the United States on Jan. 4, 2004.
The goal of the FMCSA Hours of Service Rules Reference Manual & Video Guide is to summarize changes in plain language and put them into the context of a real-world trip, said Kristen Cooke, manager of LogChek.
“The first step is to learn how to properly follow the new rules so you avoid violations and penalties come Jan. 4,” she said. “But it’s just as important to recognize how to strategically make them part of your trip plans so you keep the freight and trucks flowing efficiently. The video and workbook show you how.”
Centred around a multi-drop trip from Kitchener, Ont., to Atlanta, the 22-minute VHS video presentation is divided into five chapters:
* Chapter One: Drive time and off-duty requirements under the old rules
* Chapter Two: Drive time and off-duty requirements under the new rules
* Chapter Three: Sleeper berth requirements, old rules
* Chapter Four: Sleeper berth requirements, new rules
* Chapter Five: Sleeper berth requirements, FMCSA Technical Amendment
The 26-page workbook is available in .pdf format so you can print as many copies as you need. It supports the video with easy-to-read charts comparing the old and new U.S. rules, as well as samples of log sheets.
Supplementing the FMCSA Hours of Service Rules Reference Manual & Video Guide is a special website at www.logchek.com. “The site puts the most current information about the new rules in one place, with reference material, links, and frequently asked questions from fleet managers and drivers,” Cooke said.
The FMCSA Hours of Service Rules Reference Manual & Video Guide costs $79.95 plus GST. Additional copies of the video are available for $49.95. The Guide plus access to the resources site at www.logchek.com are available for $129.95.
