Mit Fuso expands Canadian business by 50%

LOGAN TOWNSHIP, N.J. — Taking advantage of the market void left in Canada by the exit of Sterling Trucks, Mitsubishi Fuso Truck of America, Inc. (MFTA) has signed eight new Canadian dealers to its network so far this year, and expects to add at least three more.

The light and medium duty straight truck manufacturer says it is expanding its network across the country by nearly 50 percent.

Mike Rumsey, vice president of sales operations says Canada is a natural market for its brands. Growth has been aided by the closure of the Sterling Truck brand (a former light duty partner of MFTA), as well as "cutbacks in model lineups by Isuzu/GMC and Hino have spurred the company to aggressively pursue top dealers in Canada."

"Fusos are rugged and known for their reliability, which is particularly valuable in tough operating environments," he says.

The company reports that sales have been accelerating for several years. “It took us just over five years to sell our first 1,000 trucks in Canada. It only took an additional 26 months to sell our second 1,000, and that pace continues to accelerate,” says Rumsey.

MFTA’s warranty package helps owners control their costs, and predictable costs help any company build profitability," Rumsey stated.

MFTA recently announced that it will continue its industry-exclusive 3+4+5 Warranty package for its 2010 model year trucks.

This warranty package includes a 3-year bumper-to-bumper warranty, a 4-year rust-through warranty, plus a 5-year/280,000 km (FE/FG models) or 5-year/400,000 km (FK/FM models) powertrain limited warranty.
