PeopleNet upgrades, adds new features
PeopleNet Online
PeopleNet released several new features for its onboard computing and mobile communications systems last month, including an update of eDriver Logs, the company’s paperless process for managing driver hours-of-service records. Compliant with the U.S. Dept. of Transportation’s regulation 395.15 and in Canada below the 60th parallel, eDriver Logs is now available in “smart” mode, which automates the recording of a driver’s duty status based on whether the vehicle is moving or stopped using a combination of GPS location and engine diagnostic information.
Outside of “smart” mode, drivers indicate on duty/off duty/sleeper berth/driving status through a Palm-based handheld device or message display. This information is made available to the driver, dispatcher, or compliance officer through PeopleNet’s Fleet Manager Web-based interface. This allows drivers to present up-to-date logbook information to law enforcement/DOT on demand.
Among the other upgrades: the system can now automatically capture of the location and the amount of fuel consumed during PTO, idle, and off-road events; and its new “Activity Standards” reporting tool can track and measure the efficiency of recurring and/or dedicated routes and activities, giving fleet managers quick notice about deviations from normal travel times, stop times, average speed, and planned stops.
Note that these upgrades are free and take place through wireless communications and online-no vehicle downtime required.
