Up-front updates mark Freightliner’s 2004 Century Class S/T
Freightliner Trucks
Freightliner Trucks given its Century Class S/T tractor its first major update to the model’s exterior.
The Century Class, introduced as Freightliner’s premium highway tractor in 1995 and updated in 1999 with various safety-related features, gets a new hood and grille. A more bold, fresh appearance isn’t the only reason: the grille and lower panel increase the frontal opening to 55 per cent of the total surface area, improving air flow and cooling capacity.
The Century S/T’s three-piece bumper has been redesigned and restyled as well. The outside pieces are still manufactured with damage-tolerant plastic, but the center section now comes with an optional chrome package. This, along with the chrome grille, sets off the front of the truck very nicely. Optional inset road lamps and amber accent lights are also available.
Freightliner has replaced the 7-inch round, sealed beams with a new composite headlamp, designed to more effectively distribute light on the road and increase nighttime visibility. The readily-available, industry-standard bulbs are protected by a strong, poly-carbonate lens.
The Century Class S/T is available with a choice of engines from Mercedes-Benz, Detroit Diesel and Caterpillar and in seven separate sleeper configurations. Its warranty runs three years and 350,000 miles.
