Webasto uses Truck World, YouTube to spread word

TORONTO — One of the most innovative idle-reduction companies in the business is taking advantage of Truck World 2008 in Toronto to highlight products specifically aimed at Canadian truckers.

At the same time, the company is spreading the anti-idling word with a new viral-video on YouTube (check www.youtube.com/makealeap).

Third, the Michigan-based Webasto announced that it’s beefing up its Canadian presence with the appointment of a new Canadian Business development manager.

“Truck World 2008 is an ideal venue at which to reaffirm our commitment to the Canadian heavy-truck market and to solutions to address the country’s widespread concern about the adverse effects of unnecessary vehicular idling,” says John Thomas, Webasto VP of Marketing.

Truck World — Canada’s largest official truck show, which is owned and operated by Today’s Trucking parent company Newcom Business Media — kicks off at the International Centre tomorrow.

The trade show will provide a platform for the company as it displays a Class 8 truck fitted with the latest heating and cooling solutions that enable truck operators to remain comfortable in all ambient conditions without idling the truck’s engine.

Show attendees can climb inside the truck’s cab and experience the working BlueCool Truck system, which has a cold storage unit that is charged (frozen) during the day while the truck is running.

The company is also showing its full range of engine-off technologies in a display emphasizing the breadth and depth of Webasto solutions available for cab air heating, engine coolant heating and in-cab cooling.??

As for the video, the star is a green frog, a metaphor for environmental well-being. The video was originally produced to support the U.S. www.makealeap.org (LEaP) website, which seeks to collect and clearly display U.S. idle reduction information and educational resources in one centralized location.

Because of the positive response to the website and as part of its renewed effort in the Canadian market, Webasto will be updating www.makealeap.org to include Canadian data.
