Softwood deal as good as it gets: Ambassador
OTTAWA, Ont. — Canadas ambassador to the US is urging MPs to accept the most recent softwood lumber deal to be worked out.
Michael Wilson told a committee of MPs that the pending deal is the best deal possible. He said it would result in $4.3 billion in tariffs being returned to Canadian companies.
Critics have accused the federal government of catering to US demands and settling for an unfair agreement to the long-running trade dispute. International Trade Minister, David Emerson, has given the forest industry a deadline of today to accept the agreement.
