Accused in trucker’s death back in court

ETOBICOKE, Ont. — The three young men charged with a street racing incident that killed a truck driver north of Toronto last June, were back in court last week.

Prabhjit Multani, 20 and Ravi Badwhar, 21, and Nauman Nusrat, 20, are charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle casing death, and criminal negligence causing death by street racing.

Innisfil trucker David Virgoe, who drove for Wilburn Archer Trucking, lost control of his tanker truck after being cut off by at least one of three speeding cars racing on the highway. Virgoe was able to steer away from the center guardrail and avoid oncoming southbound traffic before crashing into a ditch. Police say his actions saved lives.

Last week, the Ontario Provincial Police presented a posthumous bravery award to Virgoe’s widow Debbie.
