AIR-WEIGH DIALS IN

The latest product from Air-Weigh Scales is a fully functioning, in-dash, digital truck scale and a direct replacement for the air-suspension pressure gauge traditionally used to estimate axle weight.

The Air-Weigh AW5801 shows the air suspension’s pressure, much like an old-style air gauge, but it displays actual on-the-ground weight. “Dial-type air gauges have been used since the early 1970s, but few operators have been able to rely on their accuracy,” says Peter Powell, Air-Weigh’s vice-president of marketing. “Most operators just use a gauge to tell them when they have to go to the expense of check-weighing.”

With its compact keypad and three-line LCD display, the AW5801 will fit into a standard two-inch dash cutout and gauge cluster, putting trailer axle, GVW, and net payload weights plainly in the driver’s view (bezels and backlighting are available to match each truck maker’s specs). Weight is displayed in 20-pound or 10-kilogram increments, and the scales are calibrated to the specific characteristics of most manufacturers’ trucks or tractors.

Communication between the tractor and trailer happens via multiplexing over existing vehicle wiring, so you won’t need extra trailer leads. Weight data can be downloaded through the vehicle’s J-1708 data bus for transmittal to fleet operations. Weight-receipt printers are optional.

The new scale is compatible with all Air-Weigh AW5700 and AW5800 models and can be retrofitted in less than 30 minutes. See your truck dealer or visit www.air-weigh.com.
