Alberta carriers ink deal with EDI service provider

CALGARY — Digital Movers, a provider of outsourced electronic commerce services, has developed an alliance with the Alberta Motor Transport Association to take advantage of the company’s Electronic Commerce Affinity Program for freight carriers and logistics companies.

Digital Movers is one of the largest resellers of public, tier one Value Added Network (VAN) Services. The company commits to large volumes of VAN services to obtain the lowest possible rates and then passes along these savings to their customers and partners. The program provides transportation companies with an opportunity to obtain EDI VAN services at discounted rates.

VAN is a forward mailbox service that facilitates the secure and auditable sharing of information (such as purchase orders, invoices, shipment status, etc.) electronically between companies to support EDI.

“Increasingly, transportation companies are being requested by their customers to provide timely, electronic information on shipments, etc.,” said Mayne Root, executive director of AMTA. “The Digital Movers’ Electronic Commerce Affinity Program provided us an opportunity to offer our members assistance in establishing this technology while reducing total supply chain costs.”
