Allison to double size of transmission plant

DETROIT (June 28, 2000) — Allison Transmission plans to double the size of its White Marsh plant under construction outside Baltimore, Md., to meet demand for the 1000 Series transmission, used in school buses, utility vehicles, and other light-duty commercial applications.

The division of General Motors will spend an additional $206 million US on the plant, bringing its total investment to $423 million. The expanded facility will be 800,000 square feet and capable of making 280,000 transmissions a year.

Allison currently builds the 1000 Series in Indianapolis. White Marsh is scheduled to open in January.
