Ambassador reopens Huron Church access
WINDSOR — The Ambassador Bridge has reopened a vital route for truckers and travelers exiting the bridge from the U.S.
Appearing to reverse a decision from last week, the company that owns and operates the international crossing reopened on a part-time basis the exit for northbound access on Huron Church Road, reports the Windsor Star.
The company said it would allow traffic to flow during “most of the day, with detours limited to peak volume hours only.”
Last week, the Ambassador erected barriers blocking access to northbound Huron Church Rd. Vehicles exiting the bridge were forced to head south instead,
Windsor Mayor Eddie Francis and other councilors criticized the closure last week, saying that motorists would be forced to go out of their way to reach downtown and the Sandwich Towne business district.
The road restrictions are necessary in order to complete maintenance work on the bridge, the company says.
After initially announcing the road would be closed for extended periods on and off for the next three months, the bridge company now says it hopes to keep the closures limited to two hours a day.
