And the survey says: Lower road speeds for Man., Sask.

WINNIPEG, (Nov. 28, 2003) — The majority of drivers in Manitoba and Saskatchewan believe that provincial speed limits should fall along with the snow during winter months, according to the Goodyear Safety Survey.

The annual telephone survey, conducted by Leger Marketing, found that 65 per cent of drivers in both provinces would support at least a 10 per cent reduction in the speed limit during the winter. The survey was conducted with 1,505 Canadian adults, and is considered accurate within 2.5 per cent, 19 times out of 20.

But Transportation and Government Services Minister Ron Lemieux says Manitoba motorists don’t need new laws to tell them to slow down. The Canadian Press quoted him as saying that education and common sense are better than new laws to reduce speed limits.

The survey also found that more than half of drivers in the two provinces admit that winter driving increases their stress level.
