April’s Class 8 Used Truck Market Drops

COLUMBUS, IN — The used class 8 truck market was down 5 percent in April, mostly due to a 33 percent contraction in the auction segment, reported ACT Research today.

Retail rose 2 percent while wholesale saw a 19 percent gain.

There are other challenges, explained Steve Tam, vice president, Commercial Vehicle Sector for ACT. “Dealers continue to report scarcity of inventory as one of their greatest challenges, especially for late model, low-mileage equipment with desirable specifications.”

Moreover, Tam said that many dealers are also reporting a reluctancy from buyers to adopt trucks with 2007 EPA compliant engines. “Eventually, buyers will have no choice but to make the switch.”
