Armour wins prestigious Atlantic business award

MONCTON, N.B. — One of the Maritimes’ best-known truckers, Wes Armour, president and CEO of Armour Transportation Systems, has been named one of Atlantic Canada’s top 50 CEOs and inducted into a corporate leadership hall of fame.

Armour, 61, was the only transportation industry CEO to make the top 50 List. Sponsored by a regional business publication, Atlantic Business Magazine, the Top 50 CEOs is a prestigious annual competition that evaluates CEO capabilities.

This year, a six-person judging panel reviewed 134 nominations for proven managerial ability, reaction to challenging situations, leadership philosophies, three-year corporate growth, commitment to industry and community development.

Armour, who at 22 years-old assumed control of the family fleet, was also admitted into the Top 50 CEO Hall of Fame, reserved for CEOs who have made the list five times.

Armour says he was “honoured” at his induction and credits his firm’s open-door policy between managers and staff.

For example, managerial staff, including Armour himself, are required to be in constant contact with front-line staff and drivers. “Our company’s success over the years has been through the quality of our people,” Armour said.

With nearly 950 trucks and tractors, 2,500 trailers, and 1,600 employees, the Moncton-based company grosses $190 million in annual revenues.

This year it ranked 12th on Today’s Trucking’s Top 100 For-Hire Carrier List.
