ArvinMeritor powertrains recalled

TROY, Mich. — Commercial vehicle component systems supplier ArvinMeritor has recalled about 3,800 power train drivelines because of the potential for parts to separate.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the recall affects model No. RPL20, high angle, inter-axle drivelines shipped to Volvo Trucks North America and Freightliner between June 15 and Aug. 28, 2006.

An improper seated or missing snap ring can result in the bearing cup to separate from the slip yoke sub-assembly, says NHTS.

Volvo and Freightliner are notifying owners, and will replace the defective parts at no charge, according to the recall notice.

Owners should contact their truck manufacturer or contact ArvinMeritor directly at (243) 435-8793.
