ArvinMeritor takes foot off brake plant in Ontario
TILBURY, Ont. — Machines are pressing once again at ArvinMeritor’s Tilbury, Ont. brake manufacturing plant after the company reached a provisional labor agreement with 250 union workers. Operations resumed yesterday.
The commercial vehicle component manufacturer locked out the Canadian Auto Workers last week when the union refused to take the company’s final offer to members for a ratification vote.
ArvinMeritor had urged the Ontario Ministry of Labour to allow a secret ballot vote for workers on the component maker’s last proposal.
“We welcome our employees back and are pleased to reach this tentative agreement,” said Pedro Ferro, vice-president and general manager of Braking Systems for ArvinMeritor’s CVS business group. “Meeting our customers’ requirements remains our top priority throughout this process.”
