ATA appeals for fuel price relief
CALGARY (Sept. 4, 2000) — The Alberta Trucking Assocation is appealing to the Alberta Business Tax Reform Commission to give truckers a break from high fuel prices.
The ATA has asked the ABTRC, a group of non-government officials, to reduce the corporate business tax and provincial fuel tax rate.
ATA officials said the industry is also seeking the elimination of the off-road fuel tax rebate system, a program where fuels used for off-road purposes are taxed, and then the trucking company must keep track of it and fill out paperwork to get a rebate.
The committee is due to report to the government this month.
