REGINA (Feb. 9, 2001) — Saskatchewan Premier Lorne Calvert named a new cabinet yesterday, including the appointment of Patricia Atkinson as Minister of Highways and Transportation.
Atkinson is an educator by trade. She was appointed Minister of Social Services in 1992. In 1993, she was appointed Minister of Education, a position she held for five years. In September 1998, she was named Minister of Health.
In addition to the highways portfolio, Atkinson will lead a new Rural Revitalization Secretariat.
“Rural Saskatchewan is experiencing major change. This government is committed to working with rural communities to do all we can to strengthen rural Saskatchewan,” Calvert said.
