Atlantic city wants 30-year traffic outlook
HALIFAX — How will traffic congestion in Halifax look 30 years from now? That’s what city officials want to know and they’ve commissioned a study to find out just what kind of gridlock patterns the coastal city can expect.
According to the Chronicle Herald, council earmarked $95,000 towards the Highway 102-107 Corridor Study, to be completed with the provincial Transportation and Public Works Department.
The first part of the $275,000 study will look at traffic needs on the Hwy. 102/Bayers Road corridor from Exit 5 to Windsor Street. Then officials will examine upgrades needed on the Hwy. 102/Bayers Road corridor from north of Exit 4C to Windsor Street. And finally, the third part will consider a potential Hwy. 107 extension from Burnside Park to Hwy. 102.
Dan English, the municipality’s CAO, told the newspaper that all those highways all dump into the city’s internal transportation system.
The Hwy 107 extension was first proposed in 1987. It was announced again in 1990 but as of yet no work has been started.
