Atlantic truckers brace for Earl
HALIFAX – Hurricane Earl is expected to strike Atlantic Canada and New England tonight and tomorrow morning.
Luckily, the latest reports on Friday afternoon indicate that Earl is losing steam and could hit the coasts of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia as a weakened category 1 storm.
However, emergency officials continue to issue warnings to the public and motorists that the storm could still be very dangerous.
Officials expect as much as 70 millimetres of rain and wind gusts of up to 140 km region when the storm makes landfall in Canada Saturday morning and moves into Newfoundland later in the afternoon.
By Sunday morning, the hurricane will move through Eastern Quebec and Labrador.
Road flooding and power outages are expected all over the region.
Meanwhile, the Confederation Bridge has announced crossing restrictions while Marine Atlantic is no longer taking new reservations and will decide today whether to cancel scheduled weekend trips.
