Barry Enman named Ontario’s top driver
TORONTO (Nov. 18, 1999) — For 26 years, Barry Enman of Stayner, Ont., has been steering and gearing his way to this honor, and his 6.4 million accident-free miles, today, earned him the title, “1999 Ontario Trucking Association/Volvo Trucks Canada Driver of the Year.”
Aside from his obvious accomplishments, Enman, who has been hauling auto parts for Warren Gibson Ltd. of Alliston, Ont., for the past 13 years, is also responsible for the rescue of an unconscious woman who was involved in a serious accident near London, Ont., in 1994.
OTA president David Bradley called Enman a credit to the industry. “His outstanding driving record and his selfless actions at the roadside exemplify the commitment to road safety made by Ontario’s professional truck drivers,” he said.
Judging of the OTA/Volvo Trucks Canada, Driver of the Year Award is presided over by a panel of judges from the OTA and the Transportation safety Association of Ontario. Enman received a cash prize of $300 and a personal trophy.
