B.C. Ferries considers anchoring unprofitable sailings

VANCOUVER — B.C. Ferries is planning to cancel what it calls money-losing off-season sailings between Tsawwassen and Duke Point.

According to Canadian Press, B.C. Ferries is considering applying to the ministry of transportation to cancel some Saturday night runs.

Spokeswoman Deborah Marshall told CP the last two round-trip Saturday sailings are only at 10- to 20-percent capacity.

The late sailings would be cancelled between October and April but would continue during the busier summer months.

CP reports that the B.C. Trucking Association is surveying its members to gauge whether the cancellations would cause problems for truckers.

So far, BCTA communications director Louise Yako thinks the impact would be “fairly minor.”
