BC, industry look to clamp down on chainless trucks

KAMLOOPS, B.C. — British Columbia truckers are working with Transportation Minister Kevin Falcon to reduce winter highway collisions and closures.

Falcon told Canadian Press that the trucking industry wants government to crack down on truckers that are not chaining up.

Truckers that disobey the rules where chains are required on icy highways “end up plugging the highways and creating real problems not only for the travelling public, but the ability of maintenance equipment to get to the roads and get them cleared.”

Falcon and the B.C. Trucking Association have opened talks on the issue.
