Bell Mobility acquires PageMart Canada
TORONTO (Feb. 3, 2000) — Bell Mobility Inc. announced that it has strengthened its position as the largest provider of wireless messaging services in Canada with the acquisition of PageMart Canada Ltd.
PageMart Canada has a Canada-wide FLEX paging network with 70,000 paging subscribers and is a business unit of WebLink Wireless Inc. of Dallas. Its service is popular with truckers because of its relatively low cost and wid-ranging roaming capability.
With this acquisition, Bell Mobility plans to develop a coast-to-coast ReFLEXtwo-way advanced messaging network. Bell Mobility now has more than 655,000 customers, which represents approximately one-third of the Canadian market.
Along with the acquisition, Bell Mobility and WebLink Wireless enter into a 10-year, exclusive contract that establishes Bell Mobility as a member of the WebLink Wireless international network. The contract calls for Bell Mobility and WebLink Wireless to have roaming agreements that allow customers to travel seamlessly between the two networks without being out of touch.
