BNSF posts transit times online

FORT WORTH, Texas (Aug. 23, 2000) — Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway Co. introduced a Web-based application that provides carload customers access to estimated transit times between any BNSF served city or point where BNSF interchanges with another railroad.

The service is an industry first, the railroad said. Customers can see the scheduled carload transit time from the release or interchange of the shipment to its placement at destination. Nearly 7000 stations make up the BNSF rail system.

The transit times can be accessed through BNSF’s Web page (www.bnsf.com) at “Quick Links to BNSF Customer Tools.” Click on the “Select From List” option and choose the “Carload Transit Schedule” to access the information.

The new application complements the intermodal transit times that are already posted on the BNSF Web-site, the company said.
