C13 ACERT gets certified
Caterpillar has received 2004 certification by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for its C13 on-highway diesel engine equipped with ACERT emission controls. The C13, Cat’s fourth engine to be EPA certified, is expected to be the lynchpin of the company’s on-highway engine business. It’s offered in the 335- to 430-horsepower range, suited to general freight, line-haul, tanker, and vocational fleets. It goes into production
this month.
Caterpillar says all of its on-highway truck and bus engines will have ACERT by the end of the year, bringing an end to the “bridge” engines that reduce emissions but don’t meet EPA standards. Cat pays a penalty on each non-compliant engine it sells. More information is available at www.cat.com.
