C15 gets EPA nod

n Caterpillar’s C15 engine has been certified by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as meeting emission targets that took effect for Cat and most other on-highway diesel suppliers in October 2002.

The C15 uses Caterpillar’s proprietary ACERT emission control technology. Offered in the 435 to 550 horsepower range, the engine will go into production in the third quarter of this year.

“This demonstrates that production of ACERT technology for heavy-duty trucks is on schedule and the technology is ready,” says Richard Thompson, president of the Caterpillar engine group.

The EPA certified Caterpillar’s C7 and C9 engines with ACERT earlier this year. The ACERT line has five engines in total.
