Cabano Kingsway Inc. to become TransForce
ST. LAURENT, Que. (April 1) — Cabano Kingsway Inc., the holding company for nearly a dozen operating divisions including Cabano Kingway Transport and Transport Papineau, plans to change its corporate name to TransForce Inc. The new name will apply to the holding company only; its subsidiaries will retain their respective names.
A shareholders’ meeting is scheduled for next April 23 to approve the new name, according to Cabano Kingsway president Alain Bedard. The company has also requested authorization from the Montreal Exchange to change its symbol to “TFI.”
“Our thinking is that it would be appropriate to have a distinct and different identity for the ownership firm, vis-a-vis the individual truck fleets,” Bedard said. He cited Woodstock, Ont.-based Contrans Corp. as an example of a parent company in the trucking industry with a distinct identity from its operating divisions.
Controlling 4750 vehicles, Cabano Kingsway Inc. operates the largest for-hire truck fleet in Canada according to the annual “Top 100” survey conducted by Today’s Trucking magazine. It has nearly a dozen subsidiaries in less-than-truckload, truckload, or bulk operations throughout Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia. Its largest divisions are Cabano Kingsway Transport, Transport Papineau, and Thompson’s Transfer.
Common shares of Cabano Kingsway Inc. are traded on the Montreal Exchange under the symbol KBN.
