Can-Am surface trade closes 2010 strong
WASHINGTON – U.S.-Canada surface transportation trade jumped 12.2 percent year-over-year in December, totaling $39.8 billion.
The value of imports carried by truck to the U.S. was 17.7 percent higher in December 2010, while the value of exports was 10.4 percent higher during this period, reports the Bureau of Transportation Statistics of the US DOT.
Michigan, as always, led all states in trade with Canada.
Overall, surface transportation between all three NAFTA nations was 13.8 percent higher, reaching $66.5 billion.
However, the value of trade between the U.S., Canada and Mexico fell 2.2 percent in December 2010 from the month before.
Month-to-month changes can be affected by seasonal variations and other factors.
