Canada Customs details plan to phase out 2ITN carrier code
OTTAWA (Feb. 16, 2000) — As soon as June 30, 2000, the Canada Customs and Revenue Agency will no longer accept 2ITN carrier codes, meaning that goods presented to Customs with a 2ITN carrier code will not be released unless the carrier has obtained its own unique carrier code.
Carriers arriving at the border on or after June 30, 2000 with 2ITN carrier codes will be sent to the commercial office for completion and processing of a carrier code application.ÊThe application must be faxed to the driver’s head office for signature by an authorized person.Ê Owner/operators can sign the application themselves.
Upon receipt of the signed application, Customs at the border will issue the carrier with a unique carrier code. Only then will Customs be able to release the goods.
Carriers currently using 2ITN are being urged to obtain their new carrier code at once to avoid delays at the border.ÊOnce the carrier code has been issued, the carrier should begin using it immediately.
Form E369 — Application to Transact Non-Bonded Carrier Operations at Point of Arrival in Canada — is available from any Canada Customs office.
